The Local Area

Sagres stands at the very corner of SW Europe.
Fronted by the Atlantic on the West coast and the more forgiving sheltered South coast made up of golden coves nestling into sapphire blue waters, it is a place of contrasts, discovery and adventure.
With all year round sunshine and endless sandy beaches it is an area rich in natural beauty, sky, sea, coast and countryside.
Visit the incredible Sagres Fortress and the cliff edge lighthouse at the Cabo sao Vicente.

Sagres is within the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. This is a protected area of wild unspoilt coastline, bays, beaches & coves adjoining expanses of wide open landscape trailed by dusty tracks, & clothed in Pine & Eucalyptus trees, flowers, wild lavender bushes populated by rummaging animals and rare birds.

Activities

Amongst the many activities, you can try Surfing:
With a stunning choice and variety of beaches, the SW of Portugal is a top surf destination & has something for everyone all year round.
With both a south and a west facing coast, there is always a vast array of choice Atlantic waves breaking on the shores. There are options for all shapes, sizes and strengths which work in all variety of conditions.
West facing Tonel Beach is just a 3 minute walk from the cottage and apartment.
South facing Mareta Beach is a 5 minute walk.
Within a 20 minute drive there are approximately 15 or so other beautiful beaches and surf spots to explore and enjoy.

Boards for Hire

Rent our easy to use soft-boards.
We have two sizes - 8ft and 8ft6'.
Light weight and easy to carry down to the beach or we can provide soft-racks.

Prices €15 per day.

You can hire surfboards and wetsuits locally, and/or have surf lessons, take a surf safari, or bring your own equipment.
There are sailing, windsurfing & kayaking hire facilities in Sagres at Martinhal beach.
Scuba-diving, dolphin trips and fishing from Sagres port. Cycle hire in the town.
Kite-surfing at Meia Praia in Lagos and also in Alvor. Sailing at Luz and Lagos.
Sky-dive from Alvor airport.
